Technology and treating cancer.

By Prof. Farrukh Hussain

One of the most defficult thing in developing the cancer treatment is the nature and the multiplicity of the cancer cells themselves this variation makes it harder for the immune system to recognise and register to respond to and actively fight against tumers but new advances in nanotechnology are making it possible to deliver targeted personalized ‘Vaccines’ to treat cancer.
It is demonstrated that the use of charged or energetic nanoscale or less than micro level metal – organic frame works for generating free radicals using X-rays within tumer tissues to kill cancer cells directly. Furthermore, the same frameworks can be used for developing immune signaling molecules known as PAMPs (Pathogen – associated molecular pattern). To activate the immune response against tumer cells. The combination of these two approaches into one resulted ” Vaccine ” with the help of this new technology may provide the key to better local and systematic treatment of difficult – to-treat cancers.
The unique properties of nano scale metal organic frameworks. Or nMOFs can be irradiated with X-rays to generate high concentrations of free oxigen radicals (capable of damaging microorganisim and normal tissues.), killing the cancer cells directly and producing antigens (a toxin) and inflammatory molecules that help the immune system recognise and clear cancerous cells, much like a vaccine. Their lattice like structure also makes nMOFs ideal transporters for delivering anti-cancer drugs directly to tumers.
In a recent approach the scientists reached to a step where a new type of nMOF structure were generated that could be loaded with drugs known as pathogen-associated molecular patterns, or PAMPs. Which after trgring with much stronger activation of the immune response to tumer antigens was capable of killing both colon and pancreatic cancer cells with high effeciency, even in tumer models that are highly resistant to other kinds of immunotherapy.
It is observed that with an extended experiments and their results the effects of the nMOFs even to distant tumers.
And we can use nano formulation to enable personalized cancer vaccinations that will work on any patient.
