However, you don’t don’t have to follow the recipe; it can easily be customized using different fruits or varieties of wine. Feel free to experiment by adding or substituting the things you like. With only a few minutes of preparation time, this Spanish sangria recipe will produce a fancy cocktail that will be perfect for brunch or a summer party.

Servings: 6

Ingredients

2 bottles dry red wine
1 1/2 cups rum
2 oranges
2 lemons
2 limes
2 peaches
1/2 cup superfine sugar
2 cups club soda

Juice one each of the lemons, limes, and oranges. Combine the juices and reserve them. Then, cut up the additional lemon, lime, and orange, and remove the pits from the peaches. Make sure to cut the fruits into equal-sized wedges or slices.

In a large pitcher or punch bowl, combine all the chopped fruit pieces. Then, add the red wine, rum, and fruit juices. Stir before adding sugar to taste. If possible, use superfine sugar because it dissolves easily into cold liquids. Then, add club soda to taste for a bubbly mouth feel. Feel free to use more soda if you find the drink too strong. When satisfied, stir one final time to make sure that everything is well mixed.

Let the sangria sit in the refrigerator for at least a 2 hours before serving. If you can, let it sit overnight. The flavors will deepen when they are given time to meld. When you are ready to enjoy the sangria, serve it chilled and over ice.

Sangria looks like a fancy party cocktail, but most people do not realize how easy it is to make at home. By combining fruit juice and wedges, wine, liquor, and soda, you can make this festive favorite in only a matter of minutes. While the above recipe encapsulates the basics, you should not be afraid to tailor things to your tastes. This real Spanish sangria is sure to be a hit at your next party.
