How you describe Diabetes ?

for a layman

Diabetes is a medical condition that affects the way your body uses glucose, which is a type of sugar that serves as a source of energy for your cells. When you eat food, your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose, which then enters your bloodstream. In order for glucose to be used by your cells for energy, it needs to be transported from your bloodstream into your cells with the help of a hormone called insulin.

However, people with diabetes have problems with insulin – either their bodies don’t produce enough insulin, or their cells don’t respond properly to the insulin that is produced. As a result, glucose builds up in their bloodstream instead of being used by their cells for energy, which can lead to a range of health problems over time.

There are two main types of diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes, which usually develops in childhood or adolescence and occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin.

Type 2 diabetes, which is more common and typically develops in adulthood, occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn’t produce enough insulin to keep up with the body’s needs.

Symptoms of diabetes include increased thirst and urination, blurred vision, fatigue, and slow healing of cuts or bruises. Treatment for diabetes typically involves managing blood sugar levels through diet, exercise, and medications such as insulin injections or oral medications.
